The Romanian Excellence Center in Economics (RECE)

RECE is Romania’s official national selection and training body for the International Economics Olympiad (IEO).

We also coordinate Romania’s participation in major international competitions including World Economics Cup (WEC), Australasian Economics Olympiad (AAEO), International Business Olympiad (IBO) and International Business and Finance Olympiad (IBFO).

Our mission is simple:

Provide free training & resources to ambitious students (14–19).

Offer access to world-class competitions recognized internationally.

National Selection Framework

RECE coordinates Romania’s official national selection process for the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) and other international competitions, ensuring transparency, academic rigor, and equal access for high schools across the country

Eligibility
Open to high school students across Romania. High schools may formally nominate candidates. Individual applications are also accepted in accordance with the national selection framework.

Multi-Stage Selection
Written assessments, analytical evaluation and performance-based ranking ensure objective team selection.

Structured Training Phase

Selected candidates enter a supervised preparation program aligned with international competition standards.

Official Team Formation
Final team selection is based on measurable performance and international criteria.

The national selection programme follows a structured annual calendar combining school-level, national-level and international stages.

MARCH 2026

Applications & School Nomination

High schools submit formal nominations and individual applications are accepted in accordance with the national selection framework.

MARCH – APRIL 2026

National Written Selection

Online and on-site written assessments conducted under national supervision and standardized evaluation criteria.

15–17 APRIL 2026

National Training & Final Evaluation

Mandatory in-person training session in Bucharest followed by final national-level examination and ranking.

JULY – AUGUST 2026

International Representation

Final Romanian team participates in IEO (China), IBFO (Romania), AEO (Australia), WEC (Online) and IBO (Online).

Celebrating Excellence: Our Achievements

In the past five years, Romanian students trained by RECE have earned over 70 medals at the International Economics Olympiad, World Economics Cup and Australasian Economics Olympiad.

In summer 2025 alone brought 6 gold, 4 silver, 7 bronze medals, 2 honorable mentions and a Top Europe distinction. Romania remains consistently ranked among the world’s Top 15 teams.

In 2026, some of RECE YOUth students have received the TES awards (also known as the 'Oscars' in education) for the development and dissemination of their student wellbeing indicator.
